Alexandria is the chief port and second largest city of Egypt. It lies on the Mediterranean sea and the western edge of the Nile delta, it also has a double harbor formed by a tea shaped peninsula. The western dessert begins just west of Alexandria, and the lake Mareotis is south of the city.
