The Amelia Island Plantation Resort & Club, which is located on the south end of Amelia Island, consists of approximately 1350 acres which include various amenities: 54 holes of golf, 23 tennis courts, a health and fitness center, restaurants, 49,000 sq.feet of conference function space, recreation center, nature areas, over 23 swimming pools and 3.5 miles of oceanfront, the Real Estate development and brokerage sales division which is responsible for the development of the undeveloped land owned by AIC. The Amelia Island Club consisting of two private clubhouses for its 1600 members.
AIP was developed in the early 1970's by the Sea Pines Company of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Sea Pines selected the firm of Wallace, McHard, Roberts & Todd to do the master planning for the development. Ian McHard was the primary landscape architect. Mr. McHard wrote a book entitled "Design with Nature" and was one of the world's foremost experts in ecological studies. Their environmental study was used to develop the master land use plan and was one of the most comprehensive studies ever done on a development prior to that time.
The vision and mission of AIP was developed in 1993 and all staff members had input in its formulation. The AIP staff consists of approximately 1100 staff members. In 1998 added to it's room inventory the new Amelia Inn and Beach Club, a 249-room facility, and 35,000 sq. ft. of additional function space. AIP offers continuing education for all members through a Career Mapping Program, in-house training and American Hotel and Motel Association's Educational Institute Certification.
AIP is now the largest resort in Northeast Florida, and South Georgia with over 700 rooms, 54 holes of golf, the best tennis facilities, the greatest amount of meeting space, the largest amount of infrastructure in recreation facilities, and the largest amount of beach front as compared to other competitors.
Amelia Island Plantation is just 27 minutes away from Jacksonville International Airport and 45 minutes from downtown Jacksonville, Florida.
Amelia Island is a barrier island 13.5 miles long and 5 miles at it's widest point and Fernandina Beach is the historic Victorian fishing village located at the north end of the island. |
