Yocona is a great little restaurant with a seriously loyal clientele. We have been busy since we first opened in July of 1995, with an annual sales growth that has averaged over 30%. The restaurant is in an old house that has served as a house, a community store/gas station, and a catfish house, over the course of 6 decades. Newcomers are usually surprised that a winding country road leads them to such great food.
Preparing that great food is our only focus. Our emphasis is on high quality ingredients with consistently careful preparation, and our menu changes weekly. Given the rustic surroundings and the owner's lack of formal culinary education, Yocona runs without fanfare or hierarchy. Because our staff is small and our quarters tight, teamwork has always been essential. The owner is the executive chef as well as the full-time pantry chef. She has worked in many restaurants, front and back of house, and believes that a well-fed staff and low-key kitchen are the keys to success (and sanity) in this profession. The current staff agrees. Most of them have been with Yocona over a year, and 1/3 of them have a tenure of 3+ years. It is a nice place to work, and an excellent place to dine. |
