 Company Description

Are Workforce Shortages Impacting
Your Competitive Advantage?

The Alliances Abroad Difference

Alliances Abroad provides a unique service that addresses the dramatic shortage in the labor force affecting the hospitality industry. This is accomplished through sponsoring non-U.S. citizens in educational internships and seasonal work programs.

Founded in 1992 as an education-based travel company, in the past year we have expanded our services to include a program specifically aimed at the hospitality industry. The program is based on meeting the increasing demand from international hospitality students who hope to gain experience in American culture and American hospitality. Our years of working with international students have given us the expertise to match the supply of international students to the needs of the hospitality industry.

Our unique program gives you the flexibility to choose from two different solutions:

 The intern program is for current or recently graduated hospitality students (international )who want to gain additional experience and training. These students arrive with a J-1 Visa, which allows them to train in the United States for a period of three to twelve months. Interns have advanced English levels and have been screened prior to being accepted into our program.

 The seasonal workers program offers current international university students an opportunity to work in the United States for up to a four-month period during their summer break. These workers are on the J-1 Work / Travel Visa and typically fill the need of unskilled labor such as housekeepers, stewards, and general maintenance. Workers have intermediate to advanced English levels and have been screened prior to being accepted into our program.

Interns and seasonal workers are typically between the ages of 20 and 26, and they come to the United States fully insured with medical benefits, as required by USIA .

What’s In It For Me?

Sponsoring Interns or Workers through Alliances Abroad will benefit your organization in a number of ways:

 You’ll bring new talent on board faster, therefore limiting local recruitment efforts
 You’ll enrich your work environment through cultural diversity
 You only pay Federal and State taxes therefore eliminating costly benefits
 Interns carry full medical insurance at no cost to the employer

Because Alliances Abroad is unique in its offering of seasonal work programs and paid internships, competition for these valuable posts assures that we select only the most qualified individuals. All participants are thoroughly screened for relevant experience and English proficiency. Non-U.S. citizens qualify for their J-1 Visa by undergoing rigorous interviews by Alliances Abroad and the Embassy Consulate in their countries.

Are There Any Risks?

Alliance Abroad’s placement process is designed to guarantee that you, the employer, receive an intern or seasonal worker who will make a positive contribution to your organization. We provide a local coordinator who is available to help facilitate a successful and mutually rewarding experience for both you and the participant. Your organization is not obligated to retain the intern or seasonal worker if they are not meeting the needs dictated by your training plan. Also, we have experienced that upon occasion the program participants may not complete their designated length of stay. If any of these issues should arise, the local coordinator would be available to assist.

What Will It Cost Me?

There is no cost to your company for engaging interns and/or seasonal workers. In our experience, employers in the hospitality industry have generally based their compensation for interns and seasonal workers upon the prevailing rate of pay for regular full-time employees in the same positions. Typically, this averages between $7.50 and $10.00 per hour for interns and $7.00 to $8.00 per hour for seasonal workers.

Many employers offer additional benefits such as subsidized public transportation, discounted room rates, discount coupons to local events/attractions, employee cafeteria, and vacation, sick and holiday pay, per company policies for all associates.

It is important that your organization is readily accessible by public transportation as interns and seasonal workers will rely on this to travel to and from your facility.

Alliances Abroad provides assisting in local housing placement services and participants will have their accommodations confirmed prior to arrival.

Alliances Abroad works with the Council Exchange,CHI and ASPECT who are designated by the State Department as sponsors of the J-1 programs. Neither Council Exchange, Aspect ,CHI or Alliances Abroad has the authority to grant visas.
