LifeWay Christian Resources is a non-profit Christian organization, owned and operated by the Southern Baptist Convention. It began in 1891, as The Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. The primary assignment for the Nashville, Tennessee based institution was to publish Sunday School literature. In 1998, the name was changed to LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention. The scope of responsibilities has enlarged considerably during the 116 year history. The education and publication agency is responsible for providing consultation, materials, services, and resources to the 43,000 Southern Baptist Churches, and Convention's 16 million members. LifeWay is among the world's largest publishers of religious materials. Located on 18 acres in downtown Nashville, the 1500+ employees produce approximately 230 monthly and quarterly products and 1,700 undated products annually. The organization operates 140+ retail stores that are nationwide and will continue to open 4-6 additional units per year.
LifeWay is also responsible for the operation of the two largest Christian Conference Centers in the nation, Glorieta Conference Center and Ridgecrest Conference Center. In 1952, Glorieta Conference Center was established in Glorieta, New Mexico, about 20 miles from Santa Fe, to serve the western half of the United States. Situated in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the conference center covers over 2200 acres.
Glorieta Conference Center is a year round facility designed to provide family vacations and group retreats in a Christian environment. Conferences are available for youth, college students, young married couples, family enrichment groups, senior adults, church leadership groups, music, and more. There are a variety of accomodations such as hotel rooms, RV and camp sites, dorms, cottages, and apartments. Recreation abounds such as snow skiing, water rafting, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, golf, tennis, and much more. Meal options vary, such as cafeteria and restaurant services, catering, banquet facilities, or a person may choose to cook their own meals. Glorieta Conference Center has 28,000 square feet of meeting space, with three auditoriums, and can accomodate 2,000 guests.
