COMPANY HISTORY AND GROWTH
In just over ten years, Heartland Hotel Corporation has established itself as a solid performer in the lodging industry. The company was formed in the summer of 1990 when two veteran hotel operators, Derick Rackham and James Smith, joined forces. Within a few weeks they had acquired lease agreements on an initial group of five hotels.
Through their own financial resources, and by utilizing their extensive knowledge of the industry, the team began seeking other opportunities to own, manage or lease hotels. The result has been steady growth, an by the mid-point of their seventh year, Heartland Hotel Corporation was operating 15 properties in 7 states, and generating $50 million in annual revenues.
Heartland is a complete hotel operator, with experience in all types and sizes of properties.
The key to Heartland's success has been its emphasis on budgeting and financial accountability. The company takes a "bottom-up" approach, with each General Manager being responsible for the preparation of a realistic plan for their property. After review and approval by Regional Directors, a well as Messers Rackham and Smith, it becomes the GM's task to "meet or beat" that budget...but in a manner that does not impinge on guest satisfaction!
With this formula, and frequent on-property visits by the principals and their team of Regional Directors, Heartland Hotels Corporation has consistently operated its properties in the black. |
